La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly considering a move for 23-year-old Portuguese international Rafael Leao in the 2023 summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Rafael Leao is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the 2023 summer transfer window. Los Blancos will not sign any more players this year but are laying down a plan to refine their first-team squad ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Rafael Leao joined AC Milan from LOSC Lille nearly three years ago and has established himself as a pivotal figure for the Rossoneri since then. The 23-year-old took some time to get going but has come leaps and bounds in the last twelve months, playing a leading role in Milan’s Serie A title triumph in the 2020/21 season.
The Portuguese international was instrumental with his contributions, amassing 11 goals and ten assists in 34 Serie A appearances. Leao also won the Serie A MVP for his performances, and his exploits have captured the attention of several European bigwigs, with Real Madrid one of his prospective suitors.
Real Madrid first considered signing Leao this summer after Kylian Mbappe snubbed them by signing a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain. But Los Blancos quickly ruled out a move for the 23-year-old attacker, with Carlo Ancelotti happy with the squad at his disposal after greeting the arrivals of Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni.
Florentino Perez has also confirmed that Real Madrid will not sign any more players this summer. At the same time, the Portuguese international is content at AC Milan amid interest from several European powerhouses. But Leao still features in Real Madrid’s wishlist, albeit for the 2023 summer transfer window.
Real Madrid will look to bring in a long-term successor for Karim Benzema in the 2023 summer transfer window, and they are hatching a plan to successfully bring in the ideal candidate. Two other players feature on Real Madrid’s radar, with Christopher Nkunku and Harry Kane also on their shortlist.
It will be interesting to see how Leao performs in the 2022/23 season, with continued excellence likely to keep Real Madrid hooked. The 23-year-old Portuguese international will look to retain his high performance levels this term.
