Everton in talks to sign Michy Batshuayi

Everton are reportedly in talks with Chelsea for the signing of 28-year-old Belgian centre-forward Michy Batshuayi.

According to 90 min, Everton boss Frank Lampard has set his sights on multiple players from his former club Chelsea, and 28-year-old centre-forward Michy Batshuayi is among them. The Belgian international has been a journeyman since joining the Blues in 2016, spending multiple loan spells away from Stamford Bridge.

Michy Batshuayi arrived at the club in the 2016 summer transfer window, but could not become a first-choice striker due to Diego Costa’s presence. He was ultimately loaned out to Borussia Dortmund in 2018 after making just 32 Premier League appearances for the Blues in a season and a half, most of which came from the bench.

His spell with the Bundesliga club was fruitful as he scored nine goals in 14 matches for them. But upon returning to Chelsea after six months, the 28-year-old was shipped off to Valencia. Batshuayi failed spectacularly in Spain and soon returned to the Premier League, with Crystal Palace snapping him up for the second half of the 2018/19 season.

Batshuayi scored six goals across all competitions for the Eagles, prompting Chelsea to keep hold of him for the 2019/20 season. But the Belgian international was not presented with enough opportunities, playing a total of just 224 league minutes. Another loan spell to Crystal Palace followed before Besiktas came calling for the recently-concluded season.

Unsurprisingly, Batshuayi does not have a place at Chelsea. And with just a year remaining on his contract with the Blues, now would be the perfect time for him to leave the west London club on a permanent basis. He would be high on confidence after a fruitful season in Turkey, where he scored 14 league goals.

Everton are in discussion with Chelsea over a permanent summer move for the 28-year-old. But Batshuayi is not the only Blues player Lampard’s side have set their eyes on.

As per the report by 90 min, midfielder Ross Barkley is set for a sensational return to Goodison Park, while Lampard is an admirer of Billy Gilmour as well. And a loan move to Everton could be on the cards. Brighton & Hove Albion and Leeds United have also been linked with the Belgian international.
