Barcelona will reportedly need to fork out €60 million to secure the services of priority target Robert Lewandowski this summer.
According to a report by Sky Deutschland, Bayern Munich will continue to play hardball with Barcelona in the transfer saga involving Robert Lewandowski. The Bundesliga champions are demanding around €60 million for the Polish international, although a deal might get concluded at €50 million.
Robert Lewandowski’s desire to leave Bayern Munich to join Barcelona has been well-documented in the past month. What started as Barcelona’s search for alternatives to Erling Haaland has evolved into a fully blown-out transfer saga which might end on a sour note for Bayern and the 33-year-old.
Lewandowski has been one of the most prized assets in Bayern Munich’s storied history, with the Pole one of the all-time top goalscorers for the Bavarian giants. The veteran striker has an eye-watering tally of 344 goals and 72 assists in 374 appearances for Bayern Munich. But his eagerness to leave has captured the attention of Barcelona.
As iterated earlier, Barcelona wanted to sign Erling Haaland but could not afford him due to their dire financial situation. Haaland is now a Manchester City player, with Robert Lewandowski emerging as a viable alternative to the Norwegian attacking sensation.
Lewandowski could link up with former Bundesliga rival Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if he joined Barcelona ahead of the 2022/23 season. But Barcelona’s attempts to sign the experienced striker have been futile, with Bayern Munich repeatedly rejecting their bids in the last few weeks.
Bayern Munich’s board members have also been vocal about their resolve to keep hold of their prized asset despite his desire to leave. And now, the reigning Bundesliga champions have slapped a €60 million price tag on Lewandowski, further complicating Barcelona’s pursuit of the 33-year-old.
Barcelona might not be able to afford to pay €60 million to sign Lewandowski even if they succeed in activating their “economic levers” to ease their financial burden. But the report suggests that Bayern Munich might agree to a compromise if the Catalan heavyweights shell out €50 million.
