As per a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United and Jorge Mendes are discussing a possible move for Marco Asensio in the summer transfer window. Real Madrid will demand €50 million to part ways with the Spanish international.
Marco Asensio has long been one of the most highly-rated forwards in Spain and has produced several moments to justify the hype surrounding him. But for one reason or another, the 26-year-old has been unable to live up to the billing, although he seemed to have changed that to some extent in the 2021/22 season.
The Spanish international amassed 12 goals and two assists in 42 outings across all competitions, playing his part in Real Madrid’s La Liga triumph. But Asensio has just one year remaining on his contract, leaving Real Madrid in a spot of bother over his long-term future. Such a situation has alerted several European bigwigs, including Manchester United.
The interest from Manchester United comes in the wake of reports that Jorge Mendes had offered Asensio to them. And the Red Devils are expected to dip their toes in the market for a wide-attacker in the summer transfer window ahead of their latest squad overhaul.
Anthony Martial seems to have no future at Manchester United, while Mason Greenwood’s off-field issues have sidelined him indefinitely. With the long-standing right-wing problems yet to be resolved, Manchester United will need to bring in a player who is a natural in the position, making Asensio a viable target.
The 26-year-old recently opened up about his future, asserting that he would soon resume discussions with Real Madrid. But reports have claimed that Asensio is prepared to walk away from Real Madrid as a free agent next year.
