Chelsea confident of signing Ousmane Dembele

Premier League giants Chelsea are reportedly confident of signing Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona this summer.

According to 90 min, Chelsea are quietly confident of striking a deal with Ousmane Dembele over a free move in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Frenchman’s contract with Barcelona is due to expire next month, and he will be free to join any club on a Bosman move.

Dembele was reported to be on his way out of Camp Nou in the January transfer window, with the Catalan giants actively looking for potential suitors. However, Dembele eventually stayed put as Xavi Hernandez reinstated him to the starting XI.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward responded well to the faith shown in him by the Barcelona boss, finishing the La Liga season with a goal and 13 assists, 11 of which came after January. Despite the improvement in on-field performances, there has been little development in the contract talks between Barcelona and Dembele.

But as per 90 min, while the Blaugrana have improved their contract offer for the 25-year-old, they are not confident of convincing the winger to stay. This opens a window for potential suitors to approach Dembele’s entourage for a free move, with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain showing serious interest.

PSG have reportedly tabled an offer to the French forward, who they view as a replacement for the outgoing Angel Di Maria, who has, in turn, offered himself to Barcelona. However, they are expected to focus on other targets, with a change in sporting director expected shortly. Leonardo will depart with Luis Campos, who is not a big admirer of Dembele, replacing him.

This will leave Chelsea with a free run on the Barcelona attacker, with the Blues themselves are looking at a crucial transfer window, with new owners taking over. A few of Chelsea’s first-team players are set to depart, with defence being the biggest area to suffer.

There are some changes expected in the forward line as well, with Hakim Ziyech among the names to be linked with an exit. If Dembele is taken on board by Chelsea, the Barcelona forward will serve as an able replacement for the former Ajax star should he manage to stay fit for the majority of his stay at Stamford Bridge.
