Aurelien Tchouameni is reportedly closing in on joining Real Madrid in a five-year deal, leaving Liverpool looking for an alternative.
According to a report by ESPN, Real Madrid could soon complete an €80 million deal to sign Aurelien Tchouameni, who is ready to pen a five-year contract with Los Blancos. The AS Monaco midfielder is also the subject of interest from Liverpool over a possible move in the summer transfer window.
Real Madrid and Liverpool are set to lock horns in the UEFA Champions League final this weekend. But the two European heavyweights could continue to wage a battle in the market long after they are done clashing at Stade de France. The latest common target for the two clubs is Aurelien Tchouameni.
The French international is one of the best midfielders in Ligue 1, having gone from strength to strength since arriving at Stade Louis II in January 2020. The 22-year-old has turned out 95 times for the Ligue 1 outfit in the last two and a half years while also establishing his foothold in the French national side. And Tchouameni could be set to embark on a new adventure this summer amid interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Recent reports had suggested that Liverpool had usurped Real Madrid in the race to sign Tchouameni, as they look to get in a long-term successor for James Milner. But the Spanish giants have tipped the scales in their favour in the past week after Kylian Mbappe snubbed them to remain at Paris Saint-Germain.
Real Madrid reportedly reopened talks to sign Tchouameni soon after the news about Mbappe’s shock decision emerged. And according to ESPN, the Merengues’ quick work has left them in the pole position to secure the services of the French midfielder ahead of Liverpool.
Tchouameni, who could be Casemiro’s long-term successor at Real Madrid, is ready to sign a five-year deal with Los Blancos. In turn, Real Madrid will likely reach an agreement with AS Monaco over a transfer worth €80 million, leaving Liverpool scouring for alternatives in the market.
