Juventus are reportedly ready to offer Adrien Rabiot to Chelsea as part of a deal to secure the signing of Jorginho in the summer transfer window.
According to French publication But! Football Club, Juventus are interested in signing Jorginho from Chelsea in the summer transfer window as Massimiliano Allegri wishes to revamp his midfield options. The Bianconeri are open to the possibility of offering Adrien Rabiot to the Blues as part of the deal.
Jorginho has been with Chelsea since 2018, when he joined from Napoli, following in the footsteps of then-manager Maurizio Sarri. The Italian quickly grew into the midfield metronome for the Blues and has played a key role in the success they have achieved in the past four years.
However, Jorginho’s contract with Chelsea expires in 2023, and the midfielder has never hidden it that he would be open to returning to Italy in the future. His agent has also teased the possibility of a return to Serie A for a while now. Although recently, the midfielder’s representative did insist that he is likely to stay at Stamford Bridge amidst the club’s troubles due to sanctions by the UK Government.
Despite that, talks of a move to Juventus do not fade away as Jorginho continues to be linked with a switch to the Allianz Stadium. Allegri is keen on switching things up in his midfield department this summer. The Bianconeri already signed Denis Zakaria in January and are planning further additions in the summer.
Paul Pogba remains on Juve’s agenda, while Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is also a target. But Jorginho is touted as the most favoured option for the Old Lady. And in order to make a deal happen, they would be willing to let Adrien Rabiot move the other way as part of the arrangement.
Rabiot joined Juventus from PSG in 2019 on a Bosman deal but has struggled to make the desired impact. Even though he has grown in importance under Allegri, the Frenchman is still seen as a dispensable member of the team. With his future in Turin in doubt, Chelsea have been linked with a move for Rabiot.
Chelsea will likely need to bolster their midfield with Saul Niguez likely to be headed back to Atletico Madrid once his loan deal expires. Ross Barkley also does not have a future at Stamford Bridge, while Jorginho’s situation remains tricky as well. Rabiot is a player that Thomas Tuchel knows well from their days together at PSG, and a reunion might appeal to the German tactician.
Juventus are hoping to use that connection to use Rabiot as a makeweight in their deal to sign Jorginho in the summer. Apart from Jorginho, the Bianconeri have also eyes on two other Chelsea stars in Emerson Palmieri and Timo Werner. It remains to be seen if they are able to work out an arrangement with the European champions for any of their players come summer.
