Real Betis vice president denies club making offer for Isco

Real Betis president Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan has insisted that the La Liga club has not made an offer to sign Real Madrid midfielder Isco.

As quoted by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan has cleared the air over Real Betis’s reported pursuit of Isco. The La Liga club’s vice-president has reaffirmed that Los Verdiblancos have not tabled an offer to snare the Real Madrid midfielder in a Bosman move.

Isco has seen his career disintegrate in the last few years after falling to the bottom of the pecking order for midfielders at Real Madrid. The Spanish international had joined Los Blancos nearly a decade ago, brimming with promise and potential while widely being regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Europe.

But he has not delivered on the promise during his stint with Real Madrid, gradually falling behind Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in the pecking order for creative midfielders. The ongoing campaign has been disastrous for the 30-year-old, who has garnered just 358 minutes of game-time across 15 appearances in all competitions.

Isco now appears destined to leave Real Madrid as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30. And the Spaniard’s next destination could be within La Liga, with widespread reports claiming that he is closing in on joining Real Betis. But the Andalusian club’s vice president Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan, has denied such suggestions, claiming they have not placed a bid to sign Isco.

The Real Betis vice president said, “Saying that Betis have an agreement for next year for this amount of money is not true. I can without doubt say that Betis have not made any type of offer for Isco and even less so for those amounts. It’s completely impossible.”

Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan’s comments could leave Isco’s future up in the air, considering he is not linked with many clubs. Interestingly, the Real Madrid midfielder is also a target for Los Verdiblancos’ Andalusian rivals Sevilla, with reports claiming Los Nervionenses have reached an agreement to land the 30-year-old.

It will be interesting to see if Real Betis’s interest in Isco is genuine and if the Spaniard will move to the Benito Villamarin Stadium. For now, what seems certain is that Isco will leave Real Madrid as a free agent to end his frustrating stint with the Merengues.
