Premier League giants Manchester United have reportedly been told to pay £50 million to sign Ajax winger Antony in the summer.
According to The Sun, Erik ten Hag is willing to make Ajax winger Antony his first signing at Manchester United. The Dutch tactician is all set to take over as the Red Devils’ permanent manager this summer and has requested the club to get Antony on board. Manchester United, however, will have to pay £50 million to sign the Brazilian.
Ten Hag was reportedly part of a final two-man shortlist to take over as Manchester United manager along with current Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino. The Premier League giants eventually chose the Ajax manager to take the club’s managerial position. The move, however, is yet to be made official.
Nevertheless, ten Hag is eager to prepare for the future and believes Antony could be a good fit at Manchester United. The Dutch manager is familiar with the 22-year-old’s playing style and the player, too, is comfortable playing under the 52-year-old.
Antony moved to the Amsterdam club from Sao Paulo in the 2020 summer transfer window and made an immediate impact at the club. In his first season with them, the winger scored nine and assisted eight league goals in 31 appearances. He has continued to perform in a similar vein this season as well, scoring eight and assisting four goals in 23 league matches.
With the Brazilian right-winger continuing to perform exceptionally under Ten Hag, Manchester United believe he could be a solid signing. Even with the emergence of Anthony Elanga, the Mancunian giants are eager to add a wide forward to their squad. The likes of Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are set to depart the club this summer, while Marcus Rashford’s form has nosedived.
And as such, Manchester United would want to sign adequate replacements to add more quality to their ranks. The aforementioned report claims that Ajax would be willing to let the youngster leave if they receive the right offer. It is believed that a sum of around £50 million would be enough to convince them into selling.
It remains to be seen if Antony is indeed one of ten Hag’s first signings at the Manchester-based club. It might not be straightforward to land the Brazilian international though, with several other clubs also keen on signing him.
