Serie A giants Juventus and AC Milan have reportedly been handed the opportunity to sign out of favour Chelsea forward Timo Werner this summer.
According to Daily Express, Chelsea forward Timo Werner is actively looking for a move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer. His agent Volker Struth has recently travelled to Italy to approach several Serie A clubs, including Juventus and AC Milan, giving them the opportunity to snap up the German international in the summer.
After joining from RB Leipzig, Werner has found it difficult to thrive at Chelsea. He has struggled with a lack of identity in the team, and the overall tactical setup employed by Thomas Tuchel has not played into his strengths.
Werner’s struggles have been evident in his numbers. In 81 competitive appearances for Chelsea, he has racked up only 19 goals, developing an ill reputation for missing clear cut goalscoring opportunities while also providing very little to the table in the final third.
Strong criticism over Werner’s performances in England has convinced the German to consider a move elsewhere in the summer. The Chelsea forward has been linked with a potential return to Germany, with Borussia Dortmund reportedly considering him as an ideal replacement for Erling Haaland.
However, it appears his agent Struth is open to exploring other options for his client. Juventus, for one, have been mooted as a potential destination, with the Bianconeri likely to hunt for a new attacker in the summer in light of Paulo Dybala’s expected departure.
The Argentine international is set to leave the Serie A giants at the end of the season after rejecting a contract extension. The likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City are already circling in on Dybala, whose potential exit could pave the way for Juventus to target Werner as an ideal replacement for the secondary forward.
Another potential Italian destination for the former Leipzig ace could be AC Milan. Much like their Serie A rivals, the Rossoneri are gearing up for an interesting summer ahead as they look to move on from the ageing duo of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud. They are also expected to face a fierce battle in keeping hold of Rafael Leao amid interest from Liverpool.
Werner, to that end, could prove to be an excellent option for Milan, given the Chelsea striker’s experience at the highest level of football. Stefano Pioli’s style of play should also play into the German’s strengths, although it remains to be seen whether the Rossoneri are in a position to afford Chelsea’s asking price for Werner this summer.
