La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly hoping to secure the signature of priority target Kylian Mbappe next week.
According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Kylian Mbappe could be inching closer to completing a Bosman move to Real Madrid. The Merengues are hoping to clinch an agreement with their priority target, who will likely leave Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
Kylian Mbappe has established himself as one of the best players in Europe since his breakout campaign at AS Monaco in 2016/17. It is particularly following his move to Paris Saint-Germain that the young Frenchman has gone from strength to strength, proving his credentials as a generational footballer.
Mbappe has almost carried PSG in the ongoing campaign, with Lionel Messi struggling to settle down at Parc des Princes and Neymar battling fitness issues. The 23-year-old has 25 goals and 17 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions. But following PSG’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid, Mbappe is inching closer to leaving the club.
Mbappe is in the final months of his contract with PSG and is no closer to reaching an agreement with them over a renewal. While Les Parisiens have repeatedly tabled a bumper new deal, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has constantly rejected their advances, suggesting a Bosman move to Real Madrid could be on the cards.
At Real Madrid, Mbappe could be the long-sought successor for Cristiano Ronaldo, especially with Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior producing the bulk of the attacking output at the Santiago Bernabeu. Reports last month even suggested that Real Madrid and Mbappe had already reached a pre-contract agreement over a free transfer.
But that does not seem to be the case, although talks between Real Madrid and Mbappe have intensified following PSG’s ouster from the Champions League earlier this week. The Spanish giants are now hoping to conclude the agreement with the 23-year-old as early as next Friday.
With that, the long-standing transfer saga involving Mbappe will finally conclude, with Real Madrid getting their priority target after failing to sign him for a nine-figure sum last summer. As for PSG, a rebuild project will likely begin in the summer following Mbappe’s departure.
