Franck Kessie has reportedly accepted Barcelona’s €6 million-a-year contract proposal, edging closer to moving to Camp Nou in the process.
According to reputed Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Franck Kessie has taken a step closer to joining Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The Ivorian midfielder has agreed to sign a €6 million-a-year contract with the Blaugrana and is now set to leave Serie A giants AC Milan as a free agent.
Franck Kessie has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining AC Milan from Atalanta. Over the last four and a half years, his stature has grown consistently, and he has played a key role in the Lombardy club’s ascent in the last few years.
To date, the 25-year-old has made 212 appearances for AC Milan, chipping in with 36 goals and 16 assists in the process. But the Serie A giants are set to lose the services of their prized midfielder in the summer transfer window, with Barcelona seemingly his next destination.
The interest from Barcelona has cropped up due to the advancing years of Sergio Busquets. While the Barcelona captain has enjoyed a resurgent run since Xavi Hernandez’s appointment as the new manager, the fact that he is approaching the end of his storied career will not be lost on the manager.
Kessie has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, with his impending status as a free agent making him an attractive option amid their prolonged financial issues. And after talks quickly reached an advanced stage, the Catalan giants seem to be edging closer to land their man on a Bosman move.
According to Rudy Galetti, Kessie has accepted Barcelona’s €6 million-a-year contract offer, which is slightly lower than some of the other reported figures. But the latest development comes as a major boost for the La Liga heavyweights and their continued efforts to bolster their first-team squad.
Kessie might not be the only AC Milan player to join Barcelona in the summer transfer window, with Rafael Leao also emerging on their radar. For now, it looks like the Ivorian midfielder will leave the Serie A giants for the Blaugrana by signing a €6 million-a-year contract.
