Andreas Christensen comments on difficult Chelsea contract situation

Andreas Christensen has left his Chelsea future in the hands of his agent and the club, as he remains focused on achieving success with the team.

The Andreas Christensen contract situation has been dragging on since the early days of the season. The Danish international can leave on a free transfer at the end of the campaign, alongside fellow defender Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Like his defensive teammates, the Danish star has considerable interest from other teams, although staying put at Chelsea also remains an option. Christensen last spoke about his contractual situation at Chelsea back in September, and in all these months, things have not progressed at all.

This biggest factor in talks stalling at some stage was due to Christensen changing agents and the new team’s subsequent demands that created issues. Chelsea reportedly sanctioned the player over the behaviour of his representatives.

Moreover, the player is now comparing offers from Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid with the one Chelsea have put on the table. Christensen wants a good pay raise and parity for his stature. If the talks drag any further, the defender will likely leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.

After Chelsea’s loss in the Carabao Cup final, Christensen was asked about his contractual situation. In his comments that appeared on 90 min, the Chelsea academy graduate stressed he could remain at the club. Much depends on the outcome of talks between his representatives and the Blues.

Christensen said, “Things can still be done. Being part of a winning team is all that I want to be as a football player. It’s hard because of all the talks between the club and my guys; I try to keep it away because I want to focus, and it’s not changed for me.”

“I go on the pitch every day, not really thinking about it. I leave that to the club and my guys, and I can focus on playing football. I just focus on winning, really. It’s a difficult situation.”

With only a few months to go before the season comes to a close, it will be interesting to see how this transfer saga takes shape as top clubs across Europe continue to monitor his situation at Stamford Bridge.
