Merseyside giants Everton are reportedly lining up an ambitious deadline day loan move for Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic.
According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Luka Jovic is the subject of interest from Everton over a last-gasp move before the January transfer window slams shut. The Toffees are hoping to prise the Serbian striker away from Real Madrid on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.
Luka Jovic has endured an underwhelming stint since joining Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2019. Widely heralded as a long-term successor for Karim Benzema, the 24-year-old has failed to reach the levels that helped him earn the move to Real Madrid in the first place.
The Serbian striker has a paltry return of three goals and four assists in 47 appearances for Real Madrid, although he has shown some positive signs this season. But with Benzema going strong year after year, there is a feeling that Jovic could benefit from a loan move. And Everton could be prepared to offer him precisely that.
The Toffees have had a busy January, having already completed three signings while selling Lucas Digne and sacking Rafael Benitez. Frank Lampard has officially been appointed as the new Everton boss on Monday, and at least one more transfer will be confirmed before the transfer deadline.
Donny van de Beek is on the verge of joining after Everton reached an agreement to sign him from Manchester United. The Dutch international has already completed his medical and will soon be announced as a new Everton player. But the Merseyside giants are not done yet, with Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic emerging on their radar.
Lampard will have one of the best strikers in the Premier League at his disposal in Dominic Calvert-Lewin. But the English international’s fitness struggles this season have hampered Everton greatly this season, with backup striker Salomon Rondon failing to make an impression. Jovic has thus emerged as a viable target for Everton, although they have very little time to convince Real Madrid to agree to a loan deal.
Jovic had also spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan, although his return to Eintracht Frankfurt did not work out as planned. With mere hours left for the January transfer window to shut down, it remains to be seen if Everton and Real Madrid will reach an agreement to complete an audacious late move.
