Barcelona are reportedly keeping a keen eye on the progress of 18-year-old Bayern Munich wonderkid Gabriel Vidovic.
According to a report by German outlet Sport1, Gabriel Vidovic is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants, along with several German clubs, are closely monitoring the 18-year-old Bayern Munich prodigy’s progress and could launch the offensive for him.
Gabriel Vidovic is widely regarded as one of the most promising young players in Germany and the next big thing at Bayern Munich. Despite only being 18 years old, the teenage prodigy is already an increasingly important member of the Croatian under-21 side while being a regular for Bayern Munich II.
Vidovic has 12 goals and seven assists in 20 appearances for Bayern Munich II but has been extremely unfortunate with the timing of his recent fitness issues. The youngster was due to be called up to the senior squad for Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund in December before an untimely thigh injury robbed him of the opportunity.
Since then other issues have plagued him, with the 18-year-old currently sidelined with an Achilles issue. But Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann is a fan of Vidovic, recentlty saying, “He is an outstanding footballer. I’ll be happy when he’s healthy again.” And Barcelona as well as several other German outfits seem to echo that thought process, with the clubs keeping tabs on his progress.
The Catalan giants are renowned to be constantly on the lookout for the brightest young players in Europe and beyond. Such an outlook has fetched them current first-team regulars like Pedri, Gavi and Nico Gonzalez. And Barcelona’s relentless search for prodigious players shows no signs of ending, with Endrick one of the latest wonderkids to emerge on their radar.
Recent reports have even claimed that the La Liga heavyweights are preparing a lucrative offer to secure his services. But Endrick is not the only precocious attackers on Barcelona’s radar, as they are also closely monitoring Vidovic’s progress at Bayern Munich.
The 18-year-old could ideally be a long-term solution in attack for Barcelona at a time when they are reeling from financial and sporting crises. But it is highly unlikely that Bayern Munich will let Vidovic join Barcelona, especially with recent reports claiming that relations between the two clubs are strained. Instead, a loan move could be on the cards for the Croatian prodigy to continue his progress.
