Arsenal are reportedly interested in a move for Juventus full-back Danilo this month as Mikel Arteta eyes a new right-back.
According to Calciomercato, Arsenal could be talking to Juventus about a potential deal for 30-year-old versatile defender Danilo in the ongoing transfer window. The north Londoners are keen on signing a new right-back this month to compete with Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Arsenal are ramping up their efforts to bring in new players this month, with Mikel Arteta intent on strengthening his squad. The north London giants have done plenty of work in the window by trimming fringe stars off the team and are open towards bringing in replacements to enhance their quality.
The Gunners have let Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Pablo Mari and Sead Kolasinac leave the club either permanently or temporarily, thereby allowing Arteta the chance to trim his squad further. While Arsenal received criticism for letting some of their fringe players depart after their recent successful request to postpone the North London Derby.
Arsenal felt the need to conduct business for the benefit of the club. The north Londoners have not backed away from their ideas. However, they are stepping up their efforts to bring in new players with a midfielder, striker and probably a new right-back being discussed behind the scenes at the Emirates.
Arsenal reportedly want to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo and have tabled a dry loan offer for the Brazilian. The Bianconeri have countered the request by first asking for Thomas Partey in return and then insisting the Gunners make a longer-term offer.
The Gunners are now reportedly discussing a potential move for full-back Danilo as they look to sign a new right-back. Since arriving from Manchester City, the Brazilian defender has been an important player for Juventus, but he is not considered the bonafide starter in his position.
Juventus would have Juan Cuadrado and Mattia De Sciglio as options if they were to sell Danilo, although they value the 30-year-old Brazilian’s experience in the position. However, if a reasonable offer comes their way, the Italian side could sanction a departure and save on his wages.
The Gunners are understandably just exploring the idea of including Danilo as part of the deal for Arthur, although they have other alternatives in mind. Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence has emerged on their radar in the last few days, although his contractual situation and EFL rules make a move complicated.
Danilo could be a good option considering he has plenty of experience in the Premier League. Moreover, he knows Arteta from their days together at Manchester City, although he may still be back up to Takehiro Tomiyasu at the Emirates. Arsenal have Calum Chambers and Cedric Soares as backups to Tomiyasu, although neither is considered good enough anymore.
Arsenal could be a good option for Danilo if he remains open to seeking a new opportunity away from Turin. The deal looks complicated from the outside as the Gunners have recently shown an inclination towards signing younger players. The 30-year-old Brazilian may not fall into that category, but if they value his experience, then the former Manchester City star is a brilliant option as a backup.
