Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is reportedly uninterested in returning to former club Sevilla in the January transfer window.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Clement Lenglet has no intention of returning to Sevilla in the ongoing transfer window. The French defender would prefer joining a Premier League club if he leaves Barcelona, although a move to England is only likely to go through in the summer.
Clement Lenglet joined Barcelona from Sevilla in July 2018 and has since had his fair share of ups and downs. The 26-year-old was once a first-choice centre-back for the Blaugrana after usurping Samuel Umtiti in his debut campaign. However, his stock has constantly been on the wane in the last couple of years.
The French international has started only four of the 19 La Liga games played by Barcelona in the ongoing campaign, totalling 409 minutes of game-time in the process. But despite his reducing stature at Barcelona, Lenglet has no shortage of suitors, with Sevilla among the clubs keen on signing him this month.
The interest from Sevilla comes in the wake of widespread speculation surrounding the futures of star defenders Jules Kounde and Diego Carlos. While Kounde is linked with several European bigwigs, including Barcelona, Carlos has emerged on the radar of many Premier League clubs.
Recent reports have indicated that Newcastle United could table an improved offer to sign Carlos this month. As for Kounde, the Frenchman could be on his way out of the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in the summer transfer window after failing to secure a move to Chelsea last year.
Lenglet is a viable target for Sevilla to that end, with Barcelona also prepared to enter negotiations with their fellow La Liga club over a possible January transfer. However, both clubs’ hopes have been dashed, as Lenglet has no intention of returning to his former club this month.
The 26-year-old instead wishes to join a Premier League club, which could be a possibility as Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have shown interest in him. However, the report claims that a Premier League switch might only materialise in the summer, which hampers Barcelona’s chances of making further additions to their squad in the ongoing transfer window.
