Transfer News: AS Monaco battle AS Roma for Sergino Dest

European giants AS Roma and AS Monaco are reportedly keen on signing Sergino Dest, who is facing an uncertain future at Barcelona.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Sergino Dest is facing an uncertain future at Barcelona after failing to impress Xavi Hernandez. The USMNT international is being pursued by European giants AS Roma and AS Monaco over a possible move in a future transfer window.

Sergino Dest joined Barcelona from Ajax in October 2020 and has since struggled to take his career to the next level. While the 21-year-old has shown flashes of the brilliant potential he possesses, he has also been unable to perform consistently, which has frustrated both Ronald Koeman and Xavi Hernandez.

According to recent reports, Xavi has been left dismayed by Dest’s performances since he took charge of Barcelona. As a result, the USMNT international, who has made 57 appearances for Barcelona, is facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou. However, there is no shortage of suitors pursuing the young defender, with AS Roma and AS Monaco keen on signing him.

The interest from AS Roma is understandable, considering Rick Karsdorp has blown hot and cold while Davide Santon is facing an uncertain future at the club. As a result, Jose Mourinho has been eager to bring a right-back into his squad, making Dest a viable target.

On the other hand, AS Monaco’s need for a right-back could be explained by rumours surrounding Djibril Sidibe and a possible exit in either January or next summer. Coincidentally, the Frenchman has recently been heavily linked with Barcelona, where he could oddly be Dest’s replacement.

Apart from AS Roma and AS Monaco, Dest has also been linked with several other European giants. Recent reports have also suggested that the former Ajax defender is open to joining Manchester City.

The Citizens should ideally have the upper hand in the race to sign Dest if their interest is serious. However, the report by Fichajes makes no mention of Manchester City, and it will be interesting to see if either AS Roma or AS Monaco can prise the 21-year-old away from Barcelona anytime soon.
