Real Madrid reportedly lead the race to sign 16-year-old Spanish prodigy Alvaro Leiva, who is prepared to snub several other suitors to join Los Blancos.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Cazurreando, Real Madrid are in pole position to secure the services of Alvaro Leiva. The 16-year-old Spanish attacking sensation is ready to reject approaches from clubs like Atletico Madrid, Real Betis, Sevilla and Villarreal to join the Merengues.
Alvaro Leiva is one of the most promising young attackers in Spain, having made quite an impression since his breakthrough at third-division club Algeciras CF last season. While he made only two appearances for the club in 2020/21, the teenage prodigy has stepped up a notch at the onset of the new campaign.
Thus far in 2021/22, the 16-year-old has made 12 appearances in Primera Division RFEF Group II, raking in a goal and an assist in the process. Leiva’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest Spanish clubs keen on signing him for their youth setup. One of his suitors are Real Madrid.
Real Madrid are renowned for signing the brightest young players in the world for their youth setup before they duly break into the first-team squad. Such an outlook has fetched them legendary players like Raul, Iker Casillas and others. And currently, several players have progressed from La Fabrica to Real Madrid Castilla to the senior side.
Some of the prominent examples of prodigious players breaking into the Real Madrid first team are Federico Valverde, Lucas Vazquez and Vinicius Jr. Of late, Los Blancos have been linked with many talented prospects, including Brazilian quartet Gabriel Pereira, Gustavo Silva, Talles Magno and Renyer, although Silva does not quite fit in the same profile.
It has also been reported that Real Madrid are set to sign Argentine attacking sensation Gonzalo Sosa. And now, the Spanish giants are closing in on signing Alvaro Leiva, who is determined to join the club.
Apart from Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Real Betis, and Villarreal were also keen on landing the 16-year-old prodigy. However, with Leiva himself seeking a move to Real Madrid, it looks like a switch to the Spanish capital is on the horizon for the young attacker.
