Liverpool are in pole position to sign Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer, who is expected to leave the club next summer.
According to a report from Torino Granata, Liverpool are leading the race to sign Gleison Bremer. The Torino centre-back is expected to leave the club after the end of the season, with less than two years remaining on his current contract in Turin.
Alongside Liverpool, Napoli are involved in the pursuit of the talented defender. Although the Partenopei are trailing the Merseyside giants, they are prepared to step up their efforts by offering one of their own defenders and €12 million in a potential player plus cash deal.
As per earlier reports, Bremer is expected to be worth around €15 million. Torino value the Brazilian highly due to his immense success since joining the club from Atletico Mineiro in 2018.
In just three and a half years at the club, the Brazilian has notched up close to 100 competitive appearances. He has emerged as a defensive lynchpin for Il Granata, with his contributions at the back becoming vital to the club’s survival in the Italian top-flight in recent years.
In addition to his defensive work rate and an imposing 1.88m frame, Bremer has also established himself as a leadership figure at the club. As such, he is now being targeted by Liverpool, who are keen on acquiring more depth in the defensive department and finding long-term alternatives for their current regulars.
Indeed, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk aren’t getting younger, while the injury record of Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate is a red flag, to say the least. Therefore, the Reds are prepared to make a move for Bremer in a cut-price deal next summer.
The Torino centre-back can offer valuable competition in the first-team. His contract situation and reported valuation make him a financially desirable option, especially if we consider his experience. More importantly, the Brazilian can prove to be a leader among men, which could be an asset in this team.
However, the 24-year-old is not Liverpool’s only defensive target in the market, as they are also in the market for Chelsea’s contract rebel Antonio Rudiger. The Reds, though, could lean towards Bremer due to his age, while he is also likely to command a smaller pay packet. Jurgen Klopp, after all, is focusing on his attacking targets next summer, with the Merseyside giants preparing a €40 million offer to sign Alexander Isak.
