Newcastle United are reportedly plotting a move to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid in next summer’s transfer window.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Casemiro is the subject of interest from Newcastle United over a move in next summer’s transfer window. And Real Madrid could be open to the prospect of cashing on the Brazilian midfielder.
Casemiro joined Real Madrid from Sao Paulo in January 2013 and has since come a long way at the Santiago Bernabeu. In particular, the 29-year-old has not looked back since returning from a loan spell with FC Porto in the 2014/15 season, forging a formidable midfield partnership with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
To date, the Brazilian midfielder has made 300 appearances for Real Madrid, chipping in with 30 goals and 25 assists along the way. However, according to the report, Casemiro has question marks popping up around his Real Madrid future, with Newcastle United among the clubs looking to sign him.
Newcastle United are set to undergo a major squad overhaul following the takeover by the Saudi Arabia-based Public Investment Fund. The Magpies can arguably do with a better player in just about every position in the team, with the midfield department, in particular, in desperate need of multiple reinforcements.
To that end, Casemiro is a viable target for Newcastle United, who have also been linked with midfielders like Matteo Guendouzi, Antonin Barak and Donny van de Beek, among others. As per El Nacional, Real Madrid would be open to cashing in on Casemiro, which instantly hands Newcastle a boost in his pursuit.
The 29-year-old is not the only Real Madrid player on Newcastle’s radar, with the Magpies also showing an interest in Toni Kroos. However, he is unlikely to join the club while they are attempting to undergo a major rebuild project.
Meanwhile, Casemiro has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain recently, and it will be interesting to see if he chooses the Newcastle project over that of PSG. What also remains to be seen is if Real Madrid decide to offload the Brazilian midfielder, who continues to be a key figure for them.
