Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly looking to engineer an audacious swap deal to sign Sergio Aguero from Barcelona.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Barcelona are set to be proposed a shock swap deal by Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 heavyweights want to bring in Sergio Aguero, apparently to appease Lionel Messi, and are ready to offer Mauro Icardi as part of the deal.
Sergio Aguero only joined Barcelona this past summer after ending his glittering decade-long spell with Manchester City, departing the Etihad as a free agent. However, the 33-year-old was sidelined for a long time and has only been able to make his long-awaited debut this past weekend.
Aguero will now be looking forward to establishing a foothold in the first-team setup at Camp Nou, especially at a time when Barcelona appear to be short on goals. However, it looks like the Catalan giants could face a tough fight to retain the services of the Argentine international, with PSG keen on signing him as part of a swap deal.
According to the report, PSG are eager to offload Mauro Icardi and have identified the best possible option to do so. By bringing Aguero in from Barcelona, they can appease Lionel Messi while Icardi could potentially be a long-term solution in attack for the Blaugrana, especially at a time they are linked with the likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Erling Haaland.
As for Icardi, he has been linked with a potential switch to Newcastle United in recent times. At Barcelona, though, the 28-year-old could get a chance to finally make his mark for the club, a decade after leaving their famed academy La Masia.
However, the report suggests that Barcelona are not interested in the swap deal that PSG might put on their table, as they do not wish to bring Icardi to Camp Nou. As for Aguero and his future at the Catalan club, Barcelona are hoping to keep hold of their summer signing by resurrecting their season.
What now remains to be seen is if Aguero indeed stays put at Camp Nou beyond his maiden campaign or if he ends up departing, having also been linked with Inter Milan in recent times. For now, though, one can be sure that he will be eager to make his mark for Barcelona after belatedly making his debut this past weekend.
