Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are all reportedly lining up a move to sign Leeds United midfield mainstay Kalvin Phillips.
According to a report from Transfer Market Web, Leeds United star, Kalvin Phillips is a man in huge demand in the Premier League with each of the traditional ‘Big Four’, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United interested in signing the Englishman.
Phillips came through the youth ranks at Leeds before breaking into the first-team a few years ago. Since then, the midfielder has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame, with Marcelo Bielsa’s appointment particularly proving to be a catalyst in his development. A key pillar of the Whites’ promotion campaign in 2019/20, he has been one of the best midfielders on display in the Premier League since arriving in the top-flight.
On the back of his stunning performances for Leeds, Phillips also broke into the England national team and was an ever-present figure as the Three Lions made it all the way to the finals of the UEFA Euro 2020 earlier this summer. So, it does not come as a surprise that some of the biggest clubs in the land are sizing up a move for the 25-year-old.
Arsenal are said to be among the teams that are looking to sign Phillips. The Gunners strengthened their midfield unit with the addition of Albert Sambi Lokonga this summer. But with Granit Xhaka back to his meandering ways and Mohamed Elneny a squad player at best, Mikel Arteta could use a quality long-term partner for Thomas Partey, making Phillips a viable target.
Chelsea are another club that are said to have their eyes on the Leeds United star. A midfield reinforcement may be needed at Stamford Bridge in the near future with N’Golo Kante entering his thirties and having fitness issues of late. While a move for Aurelien Tchouameni is being strongly mooted, it seems like the Blues are keeping their options and have Phillips as an option on their radars as well.
Liverpool, too, have taken a liking to the 25-year-old England international and understandably so, considering that they lost Georginio Wijnaldum this past summer and did not sign a replacement. With James Milner not getting any younger and Thiago Alcantara being bogged down by injury problems, Phillips can be a quality addition to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield arsenal.
Finally, Manchester United are also said to be in the hunt for the signing of the Leeds ace. The Red Devils are staring at the prospect of losing Paul Pogba on a free transfer next year. Furthermore, Donny van de Beek is staring at an uncertain future as well while Nemanja Matic is no spring chicken. With Fred proving to be a tad unreliable, someone like Phillips can shore things up in the middle for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The report even mentions Tottenham Hotspur as a potential suitor for Phillips while reigning Premier League champions, Manchester City, too have been linked with him in the recent past. It is a testament to the quality of the 25-year-old that a host of top clubs are eyeing a move for him. However, only time will tell if he leaves Leeds or stays put at Elland Road come summer next year.
