Transfer News: Manchester City told to pay €70 million for Theo Hernandez

Manchester City will have to pay a huge transfer fee to lure Theo Hernandez away from AC Milan as Pep Guardiola likes the left-back.

According to Fichajes, Manchester City could ramp up their interest in Theo Hernandez, although AC Milan are quoting them €70 million for the left-back. Pep Guardiola likes the Frenchman to boost his options at left-back, having endured some problems in the position.

Theo Hernandez has become a key member of the AC Milan squad that finished second last season and qualified for the Champions League. The Rossoneri have returned among Europe’s elite after a gap of nearly eight years. The left-back had no small part to play in their progress as they briefly challenged for the Serie A title last season.

His performances have attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs, including from the Premier League. Hernandez has been a consistent performer, making 33 appearances in each of his two full seasons in Milan. Furthermore, he contributes a healthy amount of goals and assists to boost his attacking performances.

Next summer could prove difficult for Milan to retain his services as clubs such as Manchester City are prepared to lure him away. In line with the interest shown from Man City, AC Milan are demanding as much as €70 million for the full-back, who still has a contract until 2024.

Man City have not shown reluctance to pay a player’s value during their transfer dealings but will still try to negotiate the price down. Irrespective of their efforts, Hernandez will not move away on a discounted price tag, although how much Milan will settle for remains to be seen.

Pep Guardiola likes Hernadez and wants to sign the Frenchman to bolster his left-back options. The recent police charge on Benjamin Mendy saw the club suspend the Frenchman indefinitely. Reports are suggesting the World Cup winner will never play for the club again.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is the not an out-and-out left-back at the club and while the Ukrainian plays a healthy number of games, the manager seemingly prefers right-footed Joao Cancelo in his place for important matches.

Signing Hernandez would strengthen the side, with Zinchenko as a backup to the Frenchman. Man City were also interested in Nuno Mendes from Sporting Lisbon before he joined PSG this past summer. They have shifted their attention towards Hernandez, considering the Frenchman is a more accomplished and experienced star.
