Manchester United are reportedly set to battle Liverpool and others in the race to sign Franck Kessie, who is set to leave AC Milan.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, the race to sign Franck Kessie is set to heat up, as he is edging closer to leaving AC Milan. The Ivorian has no shortage of suitors either, with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City, among others, keen on signing him.
Franck Kessie has made remarkable progress in his career since joining AC Milan from Atalanta. Initially signed on loan in the summer of 2017, the 24-year-old made such a rapid impression that Milan would not have been bothered about being obligated to buy him permanently in 2019.
To date, Kessie has made 184 appearances for the Rossoneri while chipping in with 30 goals and 15 assists along the way. However, after entering the final year of his contract with AC Milan, the Ivorian’s future has become the subject of intense speculation. Such a situation has piqued the interest of Liverpool and Manchester United.
Liverpool only recently joined the race to sign Kessie, who has also been linked with several other Premier League clubs. The potential interest in the 24-year-old makes sense as well, considering the Reds did not sign a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum. While Harvey Elliott has already been stepping up, a midfield addition could hold Liverpool in good stead.
That is because James Milner is closing in on the end of his career while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones have not been featuring too much. However, as per recent reports, Milan have been demanding Thiago Alcantara as part of a deal to sign Kessie, although it will be irrelevant if he runs out his contract, which brings Manchester United and others into the picture.
Speaking of, Manchester United are in a precarious situation over the future of Paul Pogba, while they could do with a central midfielder who is progressive on the ball. That, in itself, makes Kessie a viable target, especially at a time when Nemanja Matic is entering the twilight of his playing days.

Apart from Liverpool and Manchester United, the likes of Manchester City and Inter Milan are also showing an interest in Kessie, who has also been linked with Chelsea and Tottenham. If he does end up leaving AC Milan as a free agent, a transfer battle could be waged among the powerhouses of European football.
