Tottenham Hotspur icon Tim Sherwood has tipped Harry Kane to join either Liverpool or Manchester United if he leaves Spurs.
The Harry Kane transfer saga proved to be one of the more captivating stories of the summer transfer window before it ended on a whimper. For several weeks, it was believed that Manchester City would prevail in swooping the England captain away from Tottenham Hotspur, only for the player himself to confirm that he was staying put at his current club.
With Tottenham set to keep hold of Kane for at least another year if not longer, the speculation surrounding him is now focusing on which other club could make a move for him. To that end, there could potentially be a few options for Kane to choose from, seeing as Manchester United and Chelsea were also linked with him.
However, with Manchester United set to complete the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea already landing Romelu Lukaku, the two giants could be ruled out of making a move for Kane next summer. As per Tottenham icon Tim Sherwood, though, Liverpool might be in with a chance to snap Kane up.
Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t HITC), Sherwood said, “For me, it looks like it might be now or never. Harry Kane, at the end of next season, I think he stays there for the whole season, even though he said that he is staying ‘for this summer’. Other teams, like Man City probably go for Haaland now. On a £70 million buy, so that blocks the pathway.”
“He won’t leave for leaving sake. He will leave because he needs to go to a club where he knows they can win. Now, that’s probably Liverpool in the Premier League. Manchester United. Manchester City or Chelsea. It won’t be Chelsea now because they have signed Lukaku. I can see him staying there for the remainder of his career. That could be the only one, couldn’t it? Man United because Ronaldo isn’t going to be there forever.”
Manchester City are clearly no longer in pursuit of Kane, with the reigning Premier League champions likely to end the summer transfer window without signing a long-term successor for Sergio Aguero. However, it remains to be seen if Liverpool or Manchester United make their move for the England captain, as Sherwood suggests they would.
