West Ham United are reportedly eyeing a summer move for 20-year-old Austrian defender Flavius Daniliuc, who is also a target for Southampton
According to a report by Daily Mail, Flavius Daniliuc is the subject of interest from West Ham United over a move in the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old Austrian defender could leave Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice this summer, with Southampton also keen on signing him.
Flavius Daniliuc spent his formative years at two of the biggest clubs in the world, having spent three years at Real Madrid before going on to enjoy a stay with Bayern Munich for half a decade. It was at Bayern where he finished his footballing education before joining OGC Nice last summer.
The switch to the Ligue 1 outfit has worked wonders for the 20-year-old, who is coming off the back of his breakthrough campaign at club level, having turned out 26 times at the Allianz Riviera, even chipping in with a goal in the process.
Daniliuc, though, could be on his way out of Nice after just one season, with West Ham United among his suitors.
West Ham United are in the market for a centre-back this summer, as they look to fill the space opened up by the departure of Fabian Balbuena as a free agent. In addition, Angelo Ogbonna, Winston Reid and Craig Dawson are all into their thirties, leaving Issa Diop as the only viable long-term option for David Moyes.
As a result, it is hardly a surprise that West Ham wish to bolster their defence by signing a central defender, with Nikola Milenkovic among their latest targets. And Daniliuc is a viable target as well, in that he can come in while still in his nascent years before being moulded to his liking by Moyes.
However, West Ham are not the only Premier League club showing an interest in the 20-year-old, who is also the subject of interest from Southampton, who are in a bit of a bothersome situation in the wake of Jannik Vestergaard’s uncertain future at St. Mary’s
As for Daniliuc, OGC Nice are open to a summer sale, and it will be interesting to see which of West Ham and Southampton end up launching the offensive for the Austrian, who could be on his way to the Premier League this summer.
