Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Jan Oblak over a summer move, with David de Gea facing an uncertain future at the club.
According to a report by Sky Sports, Jan Oblak has emerged as a possible target for the summer transfer window for Manchester United. The Atletico Madrid no. 1 is one of three goalkeepers the Red Devils have tracked ahead of the summer transfer window, with question marks being raised over the future of David de Gea.
Jan Oblak has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world since joining Atletico Madrid from Benfica in the summer of 2014. Over the last seven years or so, the Slovenian has been ever present in goal for Los Rojiblancos, and has a stunning record of keeping 153 clean sheets while letting in 202 goals in 289 appearances.
Suffice to say his status of being one of the best in his position has piqued the interest of a number of top clubs across Europe. The latest suitor to emerge in pursuit of the 28-year-old are Manchester United, who could be plunged into the transfer market for a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United appear set to make a major change to their goalkeeping department this coming summer, with recent reports suggesting that David de Gea is facing an uncertain future at the club. In addition, it has also been claimed that Dean Henderson expects to become the next first-choice goalkeeper next season.
Such a thought process does not really align with the suggestions by Sky Sports. While it is not clear where de Gea will end up, targeting someone like Oblak should theoretically hamper the prospects of Henderson in addition to the upcoming generation of goalkeepers, including Matej Kovar and others.

Meanwhile, apart from Oblak, the likes of Mike Maignan and Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has been linked with Chelsea as well, are also on Manchester United’s radar. As far as the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper is concerned, his £103 million release clause could well put the spanner in the works for the Red Devils.
In comparison, Donnarumma will not cost a penny if he fails to reach an agreement with AC Milan over a renewal, whereas Maignan will also come at a fraction of the £103 million that Oblak is priced at. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Manchester United end up splashing the big bucks on Oblak, if de Gea ends up leaving this summer.
