Transfer News: Real Madrid, Arsenal keen on signing Jose Gaya

Real Madrid and Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Jose Gaya from Valencia in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Golsmedia, Jose Gaya is the subject of interest from Arsenal over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Spanish international, though, wants to stay put at Valencia and is firmly committed to his present club.

Gaya is a product of the Valencia academy and has been a part of the first-team setup since 2012, when he made his debut aged just 17. Over the past eight years or so, the Spaniard has gone on to firmly establish himself as a pivotal figure for Los Che while being regarded as one of the best left-backs in La Liga.

In recent years, he has also established a foothold within the Spanish national squad. Till date, Gaya has turned out nearly 250 times for Valencia and was elevated into the role of the club captain last summer following the departure of Dani Parejo. His exploits have piqued the interest of several clubs over the years and currently, Real Madrid and Arsenal are among those in his pursuit.

Real Madrid are preparing for life after Marcelo, who is in the twilight of his storied career and has endured a sharp decline in the past year or so. As a result, Los Blancos have been linked with quite a few left-back options ahead of the summer, with the latest target reported to be Lucas Hernandez. Now, Gaya has emerged as a viable target as well.

At Arsenal, on the other hand, Mikel Arteta has just one natural left-back at his disposal in Kieran Tierney, having sent Sead Kolasinac on loan to Schalke last month. That has left the Spaniard with Cedric Soares and Bukayo Saka as potential makeshift options, although the lack of another natural left-back has been hurting the Gunners, who have endured a difficult 2020/21 campaign.

In addition to Arsenal and Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and PSG have also been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old, while Barcelona, who were previously in his pursuit, have cooled their interest in him. Meanwhile, Gaya’s contract with Valencia runs out in a little over two years’ time, which would ideally make him an easy target to swoop away.

However, Gaya is totally committed to the cause at Valencia and is open to the prospect of penning  a new deal with the club whenever it is possible. With the Spanish international in no mood to leave the La Liga club, it looks like Real Madrid and Arsenal will have to turn their attention elsewhere in search of a left-back addition in the summer.
