Chelsea outcast Tiemoue Bakayoko is among the list of potential targets for FC Bayern Munich as they look for reinforcements in midfield this summer.
According to Le10Sport, Tiemoue Bakayoko has emerged as the latest target for Bayern Munich. The Chelsea midfielder has been identified as a potential candidate as the Bundesliga giants brace themselves for a massive overhaul in the midfield department.
Bayern are also eyeing a move for Tanguy Ndombele but face a much more delicate situation, with Tottenham Hotspur signing him for a big-money move last summer. Bakayoko, in that regard, is an easier target, with Chelsea willing to listen to offers for the French midfielder.
The Bavarians’ interest in Bakayoko, however, comes as no surprise as Hansi Flick prepares to get rid of a few fringe players in the squad. Javi Martinez, in particular, has not been favoured by the new Bayern Munich coach and at the age of 31, he is nearing the final phase of his career.
Meanwhile, Corentin Tolisso has struggled from injuries ever since his move to Bayern Munich in 2017. The Frenchman is another player expected to depart this summer, having already been linked with a move to Premier League. Manchester United, in particular, have been among the club reportedly keen on the 2018 French world champion.
However, the biggest name expected to leave Bayern Munich this summer is Thiago Alcantara. The Spanish international, regarded as one of the best midfielders in Europe, has been linked with a move to Liverpool, with the player’s current contract in Bavaria expiring at the end of next season.
Thiago’s departure could create a massive void in the Bayern Munich midfield. And that’s where Bakayoko could come into the fray, providing additional competition for Joshua Kimmich while allowing Leon Goretzka to earn a more prominent role in the first-team.
Bakayoko spent this past season on loan at AS Monaco in Ligue 1. He managed to establish himself as a first-team regular for the French giants, with his performances helping him revive his career, to an extent.
Nonetheless, Chelsea will be more than happy to get rid of the Frenchman on a permanent basis this summer as it will help them fund moves for other targets. The move also makes sense from a sporting perspective as the Blues already have one of the best midfield units in the Premier League.
The return of Bakayoko is, therefore, rather irrelevant and will unnecessary stack the midfield department for Chelsea. But, with Bayern ready to sign the midfielder this summer, it could be an ideal opportunity for the Premier League giants to squeeze out some cash in these troubled times.
