Transfer News: Real Madrid outcast James Rodriguez in talks with Manchester United over summer move

Manchester United are reportedly in talks with Real Madrid outcast James Rodriguez’s agent, Jorge Mendes, over a summer move.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Real Madrid outcast James Rodriguez appears to have no future at Real Madrid. The Colombian attacker’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is in talks with Manchester United among other club over a move in the summer transfer window, with the player valued at €40 million.

James Rodriguez seems to have hit a roadblock since returning to Real Madrid after a two-year loan spell with Bayern Munich. The 28-year-old, once touted to be one of the most promising young playmakers in the world, has been out of favour with Zinedine Zidane, which has affected his game time.

As a result, he has managed just 13 appearances in all competitions so far this season, with a tally of 1 goal and 2 assists hardly doing him any favours. A summer move away from Real Madrid, therefore, looks likely, with Manchester United reportedly reigniting their interest in him.

Manchester United do not appear to be in need of signing an attacking midfielder, having secured the services of Bruno Fernandes in the January transfer window. With the Portuguese international going great guns at Old Trafford so far, it is hard to see how someone like James Rodriguez would fit in at United.

Perhaps, with the future of Paul Pogba being uncertain, the Colombian star could be the French midfielder’s replacement. Having essayed a deeper role in midfield while at Bayern Munich, James Rodriguez could be an option to play in the double pivot, or as a no. 8, if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer utilises the 4-3-3 formation.

It now looks like Manchester United have opened talks with the Real Madrid attacker, whose agent, Jorge Mendes, has started the procedure of finding him a new club in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the player’s valuation is unlikely to pose a problem, with the report suggesting that Real Madrid are likely to command a price around €40 million.

Manchester United, though, will need to fend off competition from Juventus and other clubs if they are to secure the services of the player. What now remains to be seen is where James Rodriguez will ply his trade next season. For now, it looks like his time at Real Madrid is fast approaching its end.
