Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Napoli over a €70-75 million summer deal for Kalidou Koulibaly.
According to Italian journalist Fabio Santini, whose claims on radio station 7 Gold have been carried out by Caught Offside, Manchester United have sealed the deal for Kalidou Koulibaly. The Napoli defender is set to join the Premier League heavyweights in the summer transfer window, in what would be a €70-75 million deal.
Koulibaly has developed into a world class centre-back during his time at Napoli. A mainstay at the back for the Partenopei, the Senegalese defender has been a rare bright spot in an underwhelming season for the Serie A giants, which has only gone on to boost his status in the game.
His exploits have garnered the attention of some of the biggest clubs in the world, with Manchester United linked with him the most heavily in recent windows. And, the Red Devils are reportedly hot on his tails once again.
Manchester United bolstered the heart of their defence last summer by signing Harry Maguire. The English international has done a decent job since his big money move from Leicester City, but there still remain some holes at the back, with both Maguire and Victor Lindelof showing a tendency to switch off at times.
Phil Jones has struggled to make an impact while Marcos Rojo has been linked with a move away from the club. Eric Bailly, meanwhile, continues to deal with injury problems, leaving Axel Tuanzebe as the only other recognised centre-back at Manchester United.
To that end, Koulibaly is a viable target for the Red Devils. Manchester United had initially been linked with a possible January swoop for the Senegalese defender. However, it now appears as if a summer move could be on the cards instead.
Speaking on the TV show Il Processo on the station 7 Gold, Italian journalist Fabio Santini has claimed that a deal is in place for Manchester United to secure the services of Koulibaly in the summer transfer window. A transfer fee has been mentioned as well, with a deal in the region of €70-75 million secured.
What now remains to be seen is if Santini’s claims are indeed true. If so, Manchester United could have a world class central defensive partnership featuring Harry Maguire and Kalidou Koulibaly and it will be interesting to see if the Napoli superstar indeed makes his way to Old Trafford in the summer.
