Barcelona icon Lionel Messi won his sixth Ballon D’or after winning the Men’s Ballon D’or for 2019 ahead of Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk, who finished ahead of Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo and fellow Reds teammate Sadio Mane.

Virgil van Dijk finished second, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, who completed the top three for the Men’s Ballon D’or 2019. The women’s Ballon D’or was won by Megan Rapinoe while Alisson Becker became the first ever recipient of the Yashin trophy, which is given to the best Goalkeeper and is named after legendary keeper Lev Yashin.
The win marks Messi’s sixth Ballon D’or, making him the most successful player in history of the aforementioned trophy.
