Chelsea are reportedly interested in and have been keeping a close eye on French club Dijon’s youngsters Mounir Chouiar and Bryan Soumare.
The Sun are claiming that Dijon pair Mounir Chouiar and Bryan Soumare are the subject of interest from Premier League heavyweights Chelsea. The Blues are reportedly keeping a close eye on the duo and watched the two stars in action over the weekend.
The recently ended matchday saw Dijon earn a shock 2-1 win over Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain. Chouiar was the impressive one as he started and scored the equaliser for Dijon en route to their shock win. Soumare did not feature in the match, but was on the bench for Dijon.
Mounir Chouiar is a winger and the goal against Paris Saint-Germain was the first in the French top-flight for the 20-year-old. Chouiar joined Dijon from Ligue 2 side Lens on deadline day in the summer of 2019 after a blistering start to his season at Lens, boasting a record of 2 goals and an assist in 4 league matches.
Bryan Soumare was also a summer arrival, albeit on a free transfer from Saint-Quentin. The 20-year-old is an attacking midfielder by trade, but can also play on the wing.
Both Chouiar and Soumare are regulars in the first-team now. While Chouiar is more of a first-choice in his position, Soumare has mostly been used as a substitute but has of late, gotten starts under his belt at Dijon. Chelsea’s interest would come more as an affirmation of the promise their talent holds.
The Blues are known to recruit young in the academy in an attempt to secure generational talents at a relatively early stage. While Chelsea had a non-existential or low success rate in producing talents for the first-team, Frank Lampard though, has proven the academy is as good as any, with many of the stars becoming regular faces under the Chelsea legend.
One example of a generational talent that Chelsea secured relatively young who made his debut this season under Lampard is Billy Gilmour. With the changed perception about Chelsea in relation to giving chances to youth, Chouiar and Soumare could be interested in taking the leap, particularly with Lampard in charge.
For now, Chelsea are just scouting the Dijon duo. But, a good season under their belt, which judging by Dijon’s current form, the club would need in order to survive this season, could see the two youngsters make their way to the Premier League.
