Real Madrid are reportedly considering the possibility of a January move for Christian Eriksen, with Tottenham open to the idea of selling their star playmaker.
According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Real Madrid are weighing up a possible move for Christian Eriksen ahead of the winter transfer window. The Danish playmaker is keen on leaving Tottenham, who are ready to cut their losses and part ways with him in January.
Eriksen has become one of the best playmakers in the game during his time at Tottenham. Over the last six years, the Dane has played an integral role in Spurs’ rise to the upper echelons of English football. But, the relationship has evidently run its course, with the player entering the final year of his contract with the Premier League heavyweights.
The 27-year-old was eager to call it quits at Tottenham in the summer transfer window itself, with Real Madrid and Manchester United being linked with him. The creative midfielder even went public with his desire to leave Tottenham in order to begin a new phase in his career. But, a move did not materialise.
As iterated, Real Madrid did have their eyes on Eriksen this past summer, with rumours of a possible move running rampant till the latter stages of the summer window. But, Zinedine Zidane was insistent on signing Paul Pogba, which meant that Los Blancos never made a concrete move for Eriksen.
Real Madrid have now been offered the chance to sign the player in the January transfer window. Spurs did make one final push to tie their star playmaker down to a new deal. But, Eriksen made it clear that he had no intention of continuing his stint with the club.
Tottenham will only demand up to €25 million for Eriksen in the winter and Real Madrid are now considering the possibility of snapping the Dane up, even though Pogba remains their priority. The chance to sign a top class player like Eriksen for such a cut-price sum is deemed as too appealing to turn down.
And, with Luka Modric being in the twilight of his career, Eriksen could have the time to settle down at Real Madrid before filling the Croat’s boots in due course. It now remains to be seen if Los Blancos indeed make a move for the 27-year-old in January, with the prospect of a cut-price deal being presented by Tottenham.
