James Milner scored the winner deep into injury time as Liverpool continued their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 2-1 win over Leicester City.
A tight first half ended with Liverpool taking the lead with a rare chance as Sadio Mane netted the opener to finish off a brilliant pass by Milner. It was more of the same in the second half but Leicester grabbed a deserved equaliser through James Maddison, although Adrian should have done better to deny the Englishman.
It almost appeared as if Liverpool’s 16-game winning run in the Premier League would come to end. But, Milner converted from the spot after Mane was fouled inside the Leicester box by Marc Albrighton. With the Reds continuing their perfect start to the season, the match-winner got a lot of deserved adulation for a superb performance.
How does James Milner do it? 33 years old and he’s still putting in top end performances like that… The man is an absolute machine. One of the best free transfers that this club has ever made.

There is no other man I would want on a penalty in the last minute of a game other than James Milner ? #Liverpoolfc pic.twitter.com/vNYc2D7Ke5

MOTM performance from James Milner. Returned back in the lineup and assisted Mane + scored the winning penalty to keep our 100% run. Brilliant in allowing Robbo bursting forward and covering him and fantastic job all round.
Incredible asset in the team. #LFC pic.twitter.com/sNJgYEhRtQ

Sadio Mane was also lauded after he scored his 50th Premier League goal for Liverpool, in what was his 100th top-flight appearance for the Reds.
Sadio Mané. Third best player in the world.

Sadio Mané is what people think Eden Hazard is.

Sadio Mané is terrific, simply amazing and charismatically intelligent.
He was Liverpool undisputed best player last year, and so far this season he has been the best!
Better than Salah!#LIVLEI pic.twitter.com/Ae9SDlNHpK

Meanwhile, Mane was also accused of diving to win the match-winning penalty, with rivals left seething.
Milner wins it for @LFC from the spot after Mane throws himself to the ground after the faintest of touches. I’m biased so I’m saying nothing.

Lol, unbelievable dive. Well, I say unbelievable but it’s very believable from Mané. They had VAR too. Everyone involved in this decision should be forced to retire from refereeing. pic.twitter.com/SS0lRZnlzv

@FA This is getting ridiculous now, that is a clear dive by Mane (after realising he has lost the ball and having a touch) he throws himself to the floor! Blatant cheating, what is the point of VAR? pic.twitter.com/Ck01YTOgKm

Quick reminder this wasn’t called a penalty but Mane’s dive was.
Decisions like these that manifest warranted distrust between fans and the sport’s governing body. Shameful. pic.twitter.com/I9XDFlBCjY
