Mario Mandzukic, who is a target for Manchester United, is reportedly among three Juventus stars set to be placed on their transfer list in the January window.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Manchester United are set to receive a boost in their pursuit of Mario Mandzukic. The Croatian striker is among three players who are poised to be made available for transfer in the January transfer window, with Marko Pjaca and Mattia Perin also touted to be on Juventus’s transfer list.
Mandzukic has been one of the most underrated strikers to have graced world football over the past decade or so. The Croat was first thrust into the limelight during his stint with Wolfsburg before he took his career to newer heights at Bayern Munich. However, it is during his four-year stay at Juventus that he has well and truly grown in stature.
But, ever since the summer transfer window opened, Mandzukic’s future with the reigning Serie A champions has been up in the air, especially with Gonzalo Higuain enjoying the faith of Maurizio Sarri. In fact, the veteran striker was a target for Manchester United during the summer as well as a few other clubs before he ended up staying put at Juventus.
Mandzukic, though, does not seem to be in Sarri’s plans for the season, having not featured even once so far. The fact that he has been omitted from the Bianconeri’s Champions League squad also adds to the uncertainty surrounding his Juventus future. All of this has given way to the resurfacing of rumours linking the player with Manchester United.
Widespread reports have suggested that Manchester United are set to rekindle their interest in the 33-year-old, especially in the wake of comments by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer iterating that the Premier League heavyweights could be in the market for a striker in January.
Manchester United could indeed do with a player like Mandzukic, who has proven himself to be a viable option to lead the line for his club while also contributing on the defensive front. The player, with his aerial prowess, would also provide dynamism in the final third.
Mandzukic was also recently linked with a move to Qatar, before a possible switch to Al Rayyan failed to materialise. With the way paved wide open for Manchester United, it now remains to be seen if a January move sees the light of the day for Mandzukic, who has no future at Juventus.
