Ten-man Arsenal came from behind to beat Aston Villa at the Emirates with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netting yet another winner for the Gunners.
Arsenal had to yet again rely on the brilliance of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to get them three points against Aston Villa. While Aubameyang might have come up with the eventual winner, a brilliant second-half performance from the entire team deserves credit. They scored three goals in this period and that too with ten-men on the pitch.
Arsenal were pegged behind in the first half after John McGinn gave Aston Villa a shock lead. Things looked bleak after Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent off for two bookable offences, reducing Arsenal to ten men. The Gunners eventually found their equaliser through a Nicolas Pepe penalty early in the second half, but Villa restored their lead in under 90 seconds after that.
Calum Chambers and Aubameyang then helped the team turn around the game and give Arsenal an unlikely win over Villa, collecting all three points. Twitter were cautious enough with this game that saw too many lapses in the first period and then their joy erupted at the scenes at the Emirates. Emery was again criticised, but there were praises for the team and Aubameyang in particular.
Here’s how Twitter reacted.
First up, like last weekend, the whole focus was on Emery after a dreadful first-half performance from his team. Again the defence and Emery’s ideas at the back were heavily scrutinized. Arsenal during this period were a goal and a man down to newly-promoted Villa and fans were not kind to the Spanish manager.
Till now @UnaiEmery_ has not been able to get a starting 11 for the team, a good substitution plan base on his team, how then is he going to improve this team?
Every game is another chance for him to experiment, sentimental in his selections…it’s time for #EmeryOut— John Peter (@johnnecruz) September 22, 2019
These are just fraudsters #Emery #Xhaka #ARSAVL pic.twitter.com/rKkvT9oZxF

The reason I don’t think Emery is the right manager for Arsenal is because with Jurgen Klopp certain parts of Liverpool’s team are spectacular but there are those guys that are just alright that Jurgen has working so hard you forget they’re just alright.

Emery cannot take Arsenal where they want to be. His methods are too haphazard.

Emery was a mistake. Everyone needs to accept it.

Then followed by tweets dedicated to match-winner Aubameyang. The fans really love him, and he has given them a big reason for that today.
Aubameyang is so wonderful to have given Pepe the chance to score his first goal for Arsenal in an important game today… #ARSAVL #TeamPlayer #Auba #Pepe #COYG

Arsenal so goated that. That’s why you pay your players ladies and gentlemen #Auba

#Auba could easily have had 2 goals this game but chose to give the penalty to #Pepe. What a player! #Guendouzi impressive as always and #Chambers was immense!#ARSAVL #Coyg #Aubamayeng #Arsenal

Unai Emery has confirmed that it was Aubameyang’s decision to give Nicolas Pépé the penalty. The team comes before personal accolades. My captain.

Finally, we end with some tweets that reflected on Arsenal’s display on the night. The focus, however, remained over the sloppiness of Arsenal’s overall game.
The #Eagles reminding me a lot of #Arsenal today, with the self-inflicted mistakes and the halftime deficit to the inferior team at home. Hopefully they have the comeback in them too…

Stop with captain talk. Folks flip flop every week depending on performances. Truth is, everyone should’ve played like #guendouzi! He played even better sans Xhaka. Team better with Torreira & Willock too. Time for #Emery to trust them! Let them earn captaincy. #ARSAVL #AFC

We won.. Yes! We bagged the 3pts, YES! But why are we struggling like this? Against small teams? Where’s our Arsenal? This is Aston villa, we did the same last weekend against Watford which lost 8goals to nil yesterday, next Monday we’re facing Manchester United. I’m worried ?
