Manchester United are now three games without a win as a ten-man Southampton held Ole Gunnar Solskjaer & co. to a frustrating 1-1 draw at St. Mary’s on Saturday.
It was a dream start for Manchester United, with Daniel James’s 10th minute goal coming against the run of play. But, the visitors struggled to build on their early lead and were pegged back near the hour mark when Jannik Vestergaard headed in the equaliser.
The Red Devils had around 20 minutes to attack a ten-man Southampton after Kevin Danso was sent off. But, a lack of cutting edge meant that their winless run was stretched to three games. Naturally, fans expressed their frustrations over the result, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was questioned after another forgettable game.
All that talk in pre season and we can’t score against 10 man Southampton

Since Solskjaer was permanently appointed, United’s league record is now W3 D4 L5 GD-4
One clean sheet, and they’ve scored more than once three times.
That’s not great, and without a surprising 4-0 win over Chelsea, it’s terrible.

Mourinho once said finishing 2nd with this Team was his biggest achievement. He was damn right. And Olé is a joke. We have players like Chong and Greenwood in bench who could have made a difference and he brings Matic and Lingard when it’s 1-1. SMH.

Despite all this domination, United yet again struggle to break down a low block. This is becoming a reoccurring issue that Solskjaer needs to sort out ASAP.

Can’t hold on to a lead vs Wolves. Can’t hold on to a point vs Palace. Can’t break down 10 man Southampton for 20 minutes. Can’t keep cleansheets. But we sold Smalling, Sanchez, Lukaku, Darmian &now play “yoot” so there is progress. I agree completely. I like what I see too.

One injury to Pogba (he didn’t even play well today) and Manchester United’s midfield is offering very little. How is it that a club of United’s size can start the season so scarce? Incredible.

Marcus Rashford copped a lot of blame after a horrible performance on the day.
I thought lukaku was our problem and rashford was better than him?#SOUMUN pic.twitter.com/ouncervPy5

Marcus Rashford is the perfect example of someone who got everything he wanted way too early. Bumper contract, number 10 shirt. His performances for the last 8 months have been awful. Can’t even tell if he’s a striker or a winger anymore. His all round game has been really bad.

Being English is the only reason why Marcus Rashford still has a career in football. #SOUMUN pic.twitter.com/sfI4SeVapQ

The guy Rashford has 0 instincts in the box. Never aggressive enough in the 6 yard box, not good in the air, can’t anticipate the good crosses James put in the last 20 minutes. What is Rashford good at I don’t get it.

But, even as fans chastised Rashford for his poor run of form, it wasn’t all doom and gloom, with Daniel James being hailed for a solid display.
My patience is growing thin with Rashford at the minute, his starting place will be jeopardy if he keeps playing like that every week. On a positive note, absolutely everything in attack was coming from Daniel James today, he was a joy to watch, our best player after four games.

In positive news, thought Dan James was bright again. Yes, he’s raw, and yes, he’s going to make mistakes, but he delivered a number of crosses that should have been put away. Happy for him.
