Chelsea academy graduate Callum Hudson-Odoi is reportedly on the verge of signing a new bumper contract to extend his stay at the club till 2024.
According to a report from The Sun, Chelsea are set to hand teenage sensation Callum Hudson-Odoi a new long-term contract worth a bumper £200,000 per week wages as they hope to stave off interest from potential suitors.
Hudson-Odoi has been heralded as one of the brightest young talents to have come through the Chelsea academy. The 18-year-old forward made his first-team debut for the Blues in January 2018 but it was during the 2018-19 season that he got an extended run in the senior side.
Hudson-Odoi featured in 24 matches across all competitions for Chelsea in the previous season registering a return of 5 goals and 5 assists in the process before an Achilles tendon rupture in late April ended his campaign prematurely. The youngster is still recuperating from the same injury and hasn’t been involved for the Blues under new manager Frank Lampard in the 2019-20 term.
Hudson-Odoi’s prodigious talent has seen him attract a lot of interest from a number of clubs both domestically and from Europe, with Bayern Munich being at the forefront of the interest in the teenage sensation. The German champions made multiple offers to land the 18-year-old from Chelsea in the January transfer window, but their attempts were rebuffed.
Hudson-Odoi too seemed keen on sealing a transfer to Munich and handed in a transfer request to try and force a move, but Chelsea dug their heels in and refused to sanction a sale. And the Blues are now hoping to secure the youngster’s long-term future at the club by offering him a lucrative new contract as his current deal is set to expire at the end of the season.
Negotiations over a new contract have been ongoing for a while now, with Hudson-Odoi now believed to be content at the club after getting assurances over his first-team role by new boss Lampard. And as per the latest report from The Sun, Chelsea have put forth an offer that would see the youngster earn £180,000-a-week and rise to £200,000 per week based on bonuses.
The report adds that the duration of the new contract will be five years, meaning Chelsea would be tying down Hudson-Odoi till the summer of 2024. After having tied down Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to new deals only recently, Hudson-Odoi’s potential extension would be another huge boost for Chelsea.
