Manchester United have reportedly made English winger Jadon Sancho, valued at £100 million by Borussia Dortmund, a priority for the January window.
According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Manchester United seem to have revisited their interest in Englishman Jadon Sancho. The Premier League heavyweights are prioritising a January move for the teenage prodigy and will pursue a £100 million move to swoop him away from Borussia Dortmund.
Jadon Sancho has made quite a splash since joining Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City. In his breakthrough campaign with the Bundesliga giants last term, the Englishman boasted a return of 13 goals and 19 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.
The 19-year-old subsequently attracted the interest of some of the biggest clubs in the world, with Manchester United, in particular, being linked with him quite heavily. But, Dortmund were resolute in their bid to keep hold of Sancho, who is unlikely to leave before the September 2 European deadline.
Meanwhile, Sancho has continued from where he left off last season at the beginning of 2019-20, with two goals and as many assists in 3 outings thus far. Crucially, he has played a key role in his side’s DFB Super Cup triumph as well as their thumping 5-1 win over Augsburg last weekend. As a result, it is hardly surprising that Manchester United have resurfaced with their interest in him.
The Premier League heavyweights had the Englishman in their sights right until the final month of the British transfer window. But, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer instead chose to focus more on defence this summer, with Manchester United signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire, both of whom have instantly transformed the backline.
Having said that, the right side of the Manchester United attack continues to look like a problem area, as was seen on Monday against Wolves. While Daniel James could eventually end up being a solution for the right wing, attacking depth will undoubtedly be an issue for the Red Devils.
Romelu Lukaku has left the club, leaving Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as the only recognised strikers at Solskjaer’s disposal. As for the wings, Rashford, Martial and James are the only natural options, with Mason Greenwood, Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard possible makeshift wingers for the Manchester United boss.
Such a situation is hardly ideal for United, who also continue to depend heavily on Paul Pogba for creative impetus. All things considered, Sancho is a viable solution for Manchester United, with the English international capable of solving several issues at once.
To that end, the Premier League giants are plotting a £100 million January move for Sancho. However, Borussia Dortmund, who are set to reward the teenager with a staggering £190,000-a-week deal, are unlikely to be open to the idea of selling him mid-season.
With Dortmund hoping to challenge for the Bundesliga title once again this season, Sancho will be a vital component in the first-team squad. And so, even though Manchester United might be ready to match their £100 million valuation, any departure might only happen next summer, as claimed by Michael Zorch previously. But, it remains to be seen if any bid is met with a positive response.
