Manchester United are reportedly set to battle PSG for 2018 FIFA World Cup winning midfielder Blaise Matuidi, who faces an uncertain future at Juventus.
According to a report by French publication Le Parisien, Blaise Matuidi is wanted by a gamut of top European clubs, with PSG and Manchester United among them. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is open to leaving Juventus, who want to retain his services beyond the summer transfer window.
Blaise Matuidi has enjoyed quite an eventful decade of top level football, having enjoyed loads of success at both club and international levels. After enjoying six fruitful years with PSG, the French midfielder has spent the last two years with Juventus, dominating Italian football.
Last year saw the pinnacle of his career as Matuidi won the 2018 FIFA World Cup with his national side. But, at 32, it looks like the best may be behind him. With Juventus signing Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot this summer, the Frenchman is in a precarious situation, which seems to have piqued the interest of PSG and Manchester United.
At PSG, Thomas Tuchel has just four midfielders at his disposal, following the departure of Christopher Nkunku. The German manager is a huge admirer of Matuidi’s talents and believes, as per the report, that Les Parisiens should never have sold him two years ago, when ironically the emergence of Adrien Rabiot forced him out of the club.
With Tuchel keen on bringing Matuidi back to Parc des Princes, PSG have sounded out Juventus over a move for the player this summer. But, the Ligue 1 champions face stiff competition from Manchester United this summer.
Manchester United hold a long-standing interest in Matuidi, having been linked with him during his time at both Juventus and PSG. And, the time may have arrived for the Premier League giants to finally secure the services of the experienced midfielder.
With Ander Herrera calling it quits at Old Trafford this summer, Manchester United have been forced into the market for a midfielder. With James Garner and Scott McTominay being groomed to become future superstars, United could ideally do with a short-term solution in midfield, making former PSG superstar Matuidi a viable target.
But, both Manchester United and PSG face an uphill task in trying to land the 32-year-old, with Juventus not looking to entertain the idea of parting ways with him. While it is true that Maurizio Sarri is overloaded with options in midfield, the Bianconeri have Sami Khedira and Rodrigo Bentancur on top of the transfer list, instead of Matuidi.
In addition to PSG and Manchester United, the likes of AS Monaco, Lyon and Everton are also interested in signing the Frenchman, who is open to leaving his current club. But, with Juventus looking to retain the services of Matuidi, it looks like all his suitors might have to set their sights elsewhere.
