Barcelona have reportedly been offered the chance to sign wantaway Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose this summer.
According to a report by Spanish publication Sport, Danny Rose has offered himself to Barcelona, who are in the market for a left-back this summer. The Blaugrana though, are not interested in signing the English international, who is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur.
Danny Rose has completed over a decade at Tottenham, having joined the North London club from Leeds United in the summer of 2007. But, it was not until the 2013-14 season that the English international finally managed to establish himself as a regular in the first-team setup.
Over the years, a number of injury problems have curtailed his involvement in the side, but he has been a key part of the squad that has become a force to be reckoned with under Mauricio Pochettino. However, his time with Spurs is set to come to an end this summer.
The Premier League heavyweights have left Rose out of their pre-season squad and are looking to offload him, with the player reciprocating the stance as well. And, in a bid to seal a move away from Tottenham, the English international has offered himself to La Liga champions Barcelona.
Barcelona are reportedly in the market for a left-back this summer, with Jordi Alba the only recognised name in the position. While the Spaniard has been one of the most consistent players for the Catalan giants, the over-reliance on him affected them late into the 2018-19 season, with no Lucas Digne to provide backup.
Marc Cucurella could have been a viable backup for Ernesto Valverde to consider. But, Barcelona ended up selling him to Getafe within days of returning from Eibar, With Juan Miranda failing to impress Valverde last season, the Blaugrana are back in the market for a left-back, meaning Rose could have been a possible solution to provide backup to Alba.
But, the report suggests that Barcelona are not interested in signing the English international for both sporting and economical reasons. With Rose set to turn 30 over the course of the upcoming season, his €20 million price tag has deterred Barcelona, who do not want to spend too much and are also looking for a player much younger than the wantaway Tottenham defender.
Even in the case of Junior Firpo, who is reportedly their top target for the left-back slot, it has been reported that Barcelona are looking to drive his price down by offering a player as a makeweight. As for Rose, a move to Camp Nou looks unlikely.
The report adds that the likes of PSG, FC Schalke 04, Liverpool and Manchester United are all showing interest in Rose and it remains to be seen if any of these clubs sign him. What does appear to be certain is that the English international will not be joining Barcelona this summer.
