Transfer Rumour: Dani Alves weighing up La Liga return

Brazilian international Dani Alves is reportedly lined up for a return to La Liga, with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla all in the fray.

According to a report by Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte, Dani Alves is closing in on deciding his next destination after leaving PSG this summer. The Brazilian international has a formal offer on the table from Inter Milan, but is weighing up a return to La Liga, where he could join one of Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and former club Barcelona.

Dani Alves has come a long long way since enjoying his breakthrough in Europe with Sevilla. Following a six-year spell with Los Nervionenses, the Brazilian defender joined fellow La Liga side Barcelona, where he would go on to achieve legendary status over the following eight years.

Since leaving Barcelona, Alves has represented two other European elite, Juventus and PSG and ended up becoming the most decorated player in the history of the game. And, after a two-season stint with the French champions, the veteran full-back is set for a new challenge this summer.

36 and with his best years behind him, Alves continues to defy conventional wisdom, having been named the best player of the 2019 Copa America, where he inspired Brazil to their ninth triumph. The focus now turns towards club football.

Barcelona could be a possible option, owing to the uncertain future of Nelson Semedo. If the Portuguese right-back ends up leaving, the La Liga champions will need to sign a top class replacement, and Alves could be a short-term solution for the Blaugrana.

Barcelona though, have not offered a contract just yet, although the Brazilian international’s camp suspects the Catalans could hand him a deal. Other than Barcelona, La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid are also in the fray following the departure of Juanfran, while Sevilla are keen on a reunion.

For now, as per the report, Inter Milan are the only club to have tabled a formal offer to Alves, while Juventus have made an enquiry over a possible return. The Brazilian international has set July 20 as the deadline to reach a resolution for his future.

If no offers arrive from Barcelona, Atletico Madrid or Sevilla, one could expect Alves to join Inter. As things stand, the veteran Brazilian defender remains a free agent following his PSG departure and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him in the wake of a successful Copa America campaign.
