Manchester United academy graduate Dean Henderson is reportedly looking to triple his wages to £75,000 per week with his new contract.
According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Dean Henderson wants to triple his wages at Old Trafford before he puts pen to paper on a new deal. The Manchester United academy graduate is demanding a £75,000-a-week contract from the Red Devils.
Dean Henderson joined Manchester United aged 14, having spent the first six years of his formative years at Carlisle United. Upon joining the Premier League heavyweights though, the goalkeeper rapidly progressed through the ranks but has still not managed to break into the first-team setup, with Joel Castro Pereira ahead of him in the pecking order.
But, a fantastic loan spell with Sheffield United, his fourth away from Manchester United, has got him a lot of positive attention. An ever-present for last season’s Championship runners-up, the 22-year-old won the Golden Glove in the second tier while also winning the club’s Young Player of the Year and the Community Player of the Year.
Now a fan favourite at Bramall Lane, Henderson, who has had a mixed UEFA Under-21 Euro, is being primed to return to Sheffield United for a second time, which will see him finally make his Premier League debut, something that is alluded to in the report as well. But, before that, Manchester United want to tie him down to a new deal.
Henderson’s current deal with the Premier League giants will run out next summer, which explains why the club are keen on extending his contract, having done so last summer as well. But, the young shot stopper wants his demands to be met before he pens a new deal with the Red Devils.
The 22-year-old is asking for Manchester United to triple his wages to £75,000-a-week, truly astonishing numbers for someone who has not featured for the first-team even once. But, The Sun claim that Henderson is confident United will agree to his terms, with his position boosted by the fact that David de Gea’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain.
Such a situation could perhaps see Henderson being a possible in-house replacement for de Gea, if he ends up departing from Old Trafford. Even so, demanding a triple-your-wage contract irrespective of his achievements so far seem a little excessive.
Recent reports though, have suggested that de Gea is set to sign a new five-year deal at Old Trafford to end his impasse with Manchester United. In such a scenario, it is unlikely that Henderson would be a regular at the club anytime soon, meaning the demands then make no sense.
But, with the report stipulating that Manchester United will meet his demands, it will be interesting to see if it indeed is the case. Henderson is a talent worth keeping hold of though, and if he has made such demands, we might just see United budge and hand him a bumper new £75,000-a-week contract.
