The former Arsenal winger has urged Leroy Sane to make a return to the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich after falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola.
Manchester City have had a relatively slow start to their transfer window. There are no signs yet of any incomings, but they might as well fight hard to keep hold of their existing stars. The Sun are reporting on winger Leroy Sane’s situation at the club as international teammate and former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry has urged the former Schalke star to return to the Bundesliga and join Bayern.
Bayern have already headlined the current transfer window with the early signing of Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid. The Bundesliga champions have paired him with another new signing and French teammate Benjamin Pavard and are making further headway in the market as they aim to make Leroy Sane their next signing.
Bayern had had their eyes on Sane right from when the Premier League season ended, with speculation suggesting the player himself might be interested in moving to Munich. The problem, however, is Manchester City and their potential demand for a hefty transfer fee for Sane. Bayern reportedly have had a bid rejected for the winger, but Man City believes the Bavarians will be back with a new offer.
Sane did not have the most productive season, with the winger seeing the face of the bench more than the field. Guardiola seemingly kept the winger on the fringes, primarily due to the explosive form of Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling. Sane made most of his league appearances from the bench and was overlooked for many big games, yet he made 31 league appearances.
The trend of not being preferred for big games could continue under Guardiola at City, and hence Sane could consider a move away from the club. Bayern, in the last few years, have made it a priority to sign top German talents. And Sane has proved what an asset he could be at the Etihad and the Bavarians are intent on bringing him to Munich.
Bayern are mainly on the lookout for players who could replace their long-serving wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, both of whom left the club at the end of the season. Apart from Sane, they are targeting Juventus’ Paulo Dybala. Bayern currently have Kingsley Coman and former Arsenal youngster Serge Gnabry on the wings, with the latter now urging Sane to make a move to the Allianz Arena.
“I would love to have Sane in my team. We get along really well, also off the pitch. He would help any team, and it’s very fun for me to play with him. He would be a real asset for Bayern Munich. I would say hello to him with a special handshake. I have already asked him about this topic,” said Gnabry.
Overall, there is every chance this transfer could see the light of the day. Bayern have the money to match Manchester City’s asking price, which may be near the €70-€80 million mark. City are trying to extend Sane’s contract. The German has two years left on his current deal and a refusal to sign an extension would force their hand to move him on.
