Premier League giants Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are in the race for French international Adrien Rabiot, with Real Madrid ending their interest.
According to a report by Daily Mirror, Real Madrid have decided to concede their interest in exiled PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot. Los Blancos‘ decision has consequently put Premier League giants Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United on red alert, with the trio keen on signing him in the summer transfer window.
2018 was a year of exiles for Adrien Rabiot. The 24-year-old has been out of favour in the French national setup after pulling himself out of the reserves list upon being overlooked by Didier Deschamps for the 2018 FIFA World Cup squad. Things did not improve much at club level, where his reluctance to sign the dotted line has seen him being dropped from the PSG first-team.
Having been exiled from Thomas Tuchel’s side, Rabiot has not kicked a ball in a competitive setting since December 11, and it is clear that he will depart from Parc des Princes in the summer. And, Premier League trio Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing the French international, with Real Madrid ending their interest in him.
The suggestions from the Mirror come in contrast to recent reports that had claimed that Real Madrid were the favourites to land Rabiot in the summer transfer window. But, if the claims by the Mirror are indeed true, the aforementioned Premier League giants are now keen on the player.
Manchester United’s interest in the French international is pretty self explanatory. Ander Herrera’s journey in the Premier League seems to be coming to an end, with the Spaniard reportedly set to join PSG. Rabiot is thus, a viable target for the Red Devils, who could have a top class replacement for Herrera by effectively swapping players with PSG.
Arsenal, on the other hand, will need to fill the void that Aaron Ramsey will leave when he departs from the Emirates on a free transfer to join Juventus in the summer. While Rabiot is not exactly a like-for-like replacement, the Frenchman can surely offer creative nous as well as tenacity in the middle of the park that will add to the options at the disposal at Unai Emery, who has previously managed him at PSG.
The interest from Liverpool though, comes as a bit of a surprise. The Reds have seen Naby Keita starting to settle down, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returned to action against Huddersfield this week. And so, Jurgen Klopp has plenty of midfielders available, which makes the idea of him making a move for Rabiot quite perplexing.
Meanwhile, the report has claimed that Rabiot’s wage demands were the reason Real Madrid were put off by the idea of signing him. But, the Mirror do not indicate whether the Premier League giants are perturbed by them in the slightest.
It now remains to be seen if Rabiot indeed makes his way to England in the summer, in which case it will be interesting to see where he ends up. For now, what remains certain is the fact that the French international will leave PSG when the season comes to an end.
