Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly on the radar of Bayern Munich, amid Niko Kovac’s uncertain future at the club.
According to a report by French outlet Footmercato, Bayern Munich could be the next top job that Jose Mourinho is handed. The Bundesliga champions are pondering the appointment of the former Manchester United manager, with Niko Kovac facing an uncertain future at Allianz Arena.
Jose Mourinho has enjoyed one of the most storied managerial careers in modern football, having won just about every major trophy he has ever contested for. In fact, he has set such a high benchmark for himself that his stint at Manchester United is widely considered as a failure, despite the Red Devils winning two trophies under his tutelage.
Mourinho though, has been out of a job since being shown the door at Manchester United almost three months ago, having overseen the club’s worst ever start to a Premier League campaign. Since then, the Portuguese manager has been working as a pundit with beIN Sports.
But, he has also been linked with a number of jobs in the meantime. The most notable of the links were with Real Madrid who, like Manchester United, have experienced a difficult 2018-19 season. But, he did not get the top job at the Bernabeu, with Zinedine Zidane returning at the helm instead.
Mourinho himself has alluded towards the fact that he has received multiple job offers, but another major club could be set to open their doors to him, with Bayern Munich keen on him, as per the report.
Die Roten have undergone a tough campaign that has seen them being booted out of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 while also being stretched to their limits in the Bundesliga by Borussia Dortmund so far.
Unsurprisingly, fingers have been pointed towards Niko Kovac, whose future at Allianz Arena continues to remain uncertain. And, Mourinho could be a somewhat “left of centre” appointment by Bayern Munich, with the former Manchester United manager not exactly aligning with the ethos of the club.
That said, with the Bundesliga champions loosening their purse strings – Lucas Hernandez was signed for a club record sum this week – the 56-year-old might have a readymade squad that he can guide to huge success, considering the group of players at Allianz Arena have just the characteristics that make for a successful Jose Mourinho squad.
It now remains to be seen if Footmercato’s claims indeed turn out to be true, with Jose Mourinho making his way to Bayern Munich soon. Chances are, it all depends on whether the Bavarians are able to defend their Bundesliga crown, the failure of which could cost Niko Kovac his job.
