Everton 2-0 Chelsea: Blues’ Champions League hopes dealt a blow after disappointing defeat [Tweets]

Second half goals from Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson condemned Chelsea a 2-0 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

In what was a game of two halves, Chelsea utterly dominated the first period and created a number of goalscoring opportunities, but failed to make the most of those chances. And this would come back to bite them after the break as Everton stepped out on the field with more energy and purpose, which ended up reaping great rewards for them.

Richarlison reacted quick after Chelsea failed to deal with a corner to head home the ball from point-blank range to give the Toffees the lead. Things worsened for the Blues as Marcos Alonso felled the Brazilian in the box to gift Everton a penalty with twenty minutes left.

Kepa Arrizabalaga managed to save Gylfi Sigurdsson’s penalty, but could not stop the Icelandic international from tapping home the rebound to seal the result. The defeat meant Chelsea wasted a great chance to move into the fifth place in the Premier League table and remain three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.

Here’s how the Chelsea supporters reacted to what was a poor result at Goodison Park;

Marcos Alonso was in for some serious criticism from the Blues’ supporters as the Spaniard struggled all game against the Toffees. The left-back constantly ceded possession to the Toffees and gave away the foul leading to the penalty.
