Jordi Alba has reached an agreement with Barcelona over a deal that will see him remain at Camp Nou till 2024, the club announced on Monday.
Barcelona have made an official statement to announce that they have reached an agreement with Jordi Alba to extend his stay with the club. The Spanish international has signed a new long-term deal with the Blaugrana that will see him remain at Camp Nou till June 30, 2024.
Alba returned to Barcelona from Valencia in the summer of 2012 following a splendid campaign at the UEFA European Championship, having spent seven years at the fabled La Masia academy before joining Cornella. Since rejoining the Catalans though, the player has not looked back, becoming one of the best left-backs in the world.

Over the last seven years, Alba has gone on to make 282 appearances, making the left-back slot his own. In fact, it is owing to his remarkable fitness and consistency that Barcelona do not have a backup for him, with Nelson Semedo and Sergi Roberto playing as makeshift left-backs on the odd occasion that the Spanish international is rested.
In addition to being a solid customer at the back, the 29-year-old is one of the biggest attacking threats at Barcelona with his marauding runs and understanding with Lionel Messi. In fact, of his 54 assists, 20 have been provided to the club captain, making them one of the most potent combinations in the world.
But, for a while, Alba was reportedly facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou, owing to contract negotiations being held up. Among all this, he was linked with a number of clubs, with certain reports linking him with Juventus, among other clubs. However, all the speculation has now been put to bed.
Alba has agreed a new five-year deal with Barcelona that ties him up at the club till June 30, 2024. The renewal will also bump up his release clause to a staggering €500 million, with the La Liga champions ensuring he is unlikely to be stolen from under their noses like Neymar had been by PSG. And, the player expressed his delight at committing his long-term future to the club.
“Continuing at this club was always my aim. I am going through the best moment of my career, and continuing here was always my aim. “I take care of myself much more, I have the support of my family along with the trust of the Club and my team-mates. I’m happy in all aspects of my life, and that allows me to play at the highest level.”
The official signing of the renewal will be held imminently. For now, Jordi Alba’s journey at Barcelona continues, with the Spaniard staying put at Camp Nou for another five years, a news that ought to leave the club’s fan excited.
